The book of Daniel tells about Daniel's vision , given by God , on an upcoming annihilating events of what could be the future of human existence .
It is symbolic and prophetic that intends to prophecy the coming and
the second coming of Jesus the Christ , the awareness from the
devastation the world may experience , may it be climatic change ,
plight of ideas of governance from politics to our own , numbers of war ,
nations against nations and against God , prior to His coming .
Daniel's vision became renowned when he revealed to the king of Babylon , King Nebuchadnezzar , what his dream was and its meaning .
The king called all wise men but no one knows and could interpret the dream , except Daniel . He became a confidant to the king and be among the advisers of his court.
Who is Daniel ? What brought him to Babylon ?
During the third year reign of Jehoiakim , king of Judah it was prophesied by prophet Jeremiah , a priest in the tribe of Benjamin , who served his ministry for 40 years from the the thirteenth reign of King Josiah until Jerusalem defeated for the third time by the Babylonians under king Nebuchadnezzar's rule during the eleventh year and fifth months of Zedekiah , that the kingdom of Judah will be captured by the Babylonians from disobeying God .
Daniel is an intelligent , handsome , healthy , self disciplined and well-mannered Jewish royalty from Judah happened to be amongst the captives with his three friends to be trained for three years as the servants of the god's of the Babylonians .
They were chosen because their physical and intellectual attributes and personalities fit the criteria the king of Babylon was looking for . They were treated as royalty and received access to foods that the king have . They were taught the language of Babylonia , "the Aramaic" .
They were given new names inclined to service the king as a protector of his gods . Daniel became Belteshazzar meaning Bel protects the king's life . His three friends were given new names that would mean servants of the gods of Babylon . Hananiah called Shadrach , Mishael called Meshac , and Azariah called Abednego .
Daniel would only want to be identified with the God of Israel not the gods of Babylonians . He stood firm for God and God did the same for him . He followed Hebrew diet instead of the king's rich food and drinks that were offered to idols .
When his trainer concerned on his Hebrew diet and feared for his execution , if this diet won't work out , he asked the guard to test them for ten days and compare them to others . The guard agreed . After ten days he let them continue their simple Hebrew diet because it made them healthier and stronger .
During the course of three years training God was with these four young men . He gave them insights and skills from what they learn and made them ten times better than the rests . For Daniel he gave him a gift for interpreting dreams and visions . They became permanent part of the king's court and trusted more than the astrologers and fortune-tellers . Daniel served Babylon until the Persians conquered them .
King Nebuchadnezzar troubled by his dream
On the ending of his second year reign king Nebuchadnezzar disturbed by his dream . He asked all of his fortune-tellers , astrologers , and priests who claimed they could communicate with the dead , to interpret his dream . But all of them were executed because they didn't even know what the dream was .
The king demanded who ever could tell his dream and interpret it will be honored and be given gifts and rewards , but those who attempted and do not know and cannot interpret the dream will be executed . The king was mad and made a decree to execute all advisers in his courts including Daniel and his friends .
Daniel wondered the king must be disturbed because without knowing his reason he ordered hastily on their execution . He asked the chief of the king's guard what had happened and he relayed what it was . He asked to be brought to the king . He promised the king that by the following day he will tell and interpret the dream.
Daniel gathered his friends and shared them what had happened . They gathered together and prayed for God's mercy to show them the dream of the king and its interpretation .
God was merciful to them . That night he let Daniel dream. He even told him the meaning as well . He was thanking God and praising Him .
He said , "Praise God forever and ever . All wisdom and power are His . He controls time and seasons . He removes kings and sets up kings . He gives wisdom to those who are wise and insight and understanding to those who know Him . He reveals mysteries that no one else can know and He sees what to man is hidden in darkness . He's the source of all knowledge , and He floods the world with the light of understanding . O Lord , God of my fathers , I thank you and praise you for giving me insight and wisdom and courage to go in and see the king . You've answered our prayers and given me the dream and told me what it means . Now I can go in and tell the king what he wants to know." . Daniel 2:20-23. The Clear Word .
